JAKARTA, INDONESIA, Inti Fakta Nusantara — The Federation of Mountaineering Indonesia (FMI) will hold a series of events to commemorate its 21st Anniversary on August 30, 2026. The milestone is being positioned as an important moment for the FMI family to reaffirm its commitment to environmental conservation, climbing safety, and the development of mountaineering in Indonesia.
One of the main agendas will be a simultaneous tree-planting campaign across Indonesia involving FMI executives and community chapters in various regions. The initiative reflects FMI’s commitment to preserving the environment and mountain ecosystems.
Tree Planting Campaign Across Indonesia
The simultaneous tree-planting campaign will involve FMI executives and community chapters in different parts of Indonesia. The program is designed to strengthen awareness of environmental preservation and protection of mountain ecosystems.
Meanwhile, the peak event will take place at the Hartono Cilandak Marine Corps Barracks in South Jakarta. The event is expected to bring together mountaineering activists, nature lover communities, and representatives from relevant ministries and institutions.
Sumardi, Chairman of the 21st Anniversary Committee, said this year’s event is also supported by Eiger Adventure as the Official Outdoor Gear Partner.
“The 21st Anniversary of FMI is not only a celebration of the organization, but also a momentum to strengthen collaboration between FMI, mountaineering communities, the government, the private sector, and all stakeholders in preserving nature and improving climbing safety standards,” said Sumardi.

Zero Waste, Zero Accident Declaration
As part of the anniversary series, FMI will launch the Clean Mountains and Climbing Safety Declaration with the tagline ZERO WASTE, ZERO ACCIDENT.
The declaration reaffirms FMI’s commitment to promoting responsible climbing culture, maintaining mountain cleanliness, reducing waste, and raising safety standards for climbers.
Sumardi emphasized that preparedness and vigilance are also key priorities. Indonesia is located in the Ring of Fire, where mountain activities carry various potential risks and disasters that must be anticipated through education, mitigation, personnel readiness, and cross-sector collaboration.
“We must build awareness that climbing safety is a shared responsibility. Because Indonesia lies in the Ring of Fire, preparedness and vigilance must become part of the culture in every mountaineering activity,” Sumardi added.
A Moment of Reflection for FMI
Sumardi said the 21st Anniversary is also a form of gratitude and reflection for the organization as it reviews FMI’s 21-year journey and prepares to strengthen its contribution to Indonesian mountaineering.
“This anniversary is an expression of gratitude, reflection, and a momentum for FMI to continue making positive contributions to Indonesian mountaineering. We want FMI to be present not only in climbing activities, but also to provide real benefits for the environment, safety, education, and human resource development,” Sumardi concluded.
Through its 21st Anniversary, FMI hopes the spirit of Zero Waste, Zero Accident will become a collective movement embraced by mountaineers across Indonesia, allowing outdoor activities to be carried out safely, responsibly, and in harmony with environmental conservation.
